This is a graduation photo from the antique shop in Brainerd Minnesota.

Graduation with the hat Brainerd

The photographer was Christianson Studio St. Cloud Minnesota.  Earl and Lloyd Christianson were photographers there in 1935 and 1936.  I am not sure if this photo fits that time frame.

It isn’t very often that you see a REAL graduation photo complete with cap and gown.

We will look at a few old Graduation photos this week until June rolls around…  June is always Wedding month!

Love Bernice Brainerd

Love Bernice.  This photo was taken at Carl Fritz of St. Cloud Minnesota.  I purchased the photo at a antique shop in Brainerd Minnesota.  I will guess that Bernice graduated sometime in the 1940’s.  Carl Fritz was in St. Cloud from 1943 to 1953 and then again in the 1970’s.

Bernice wears a simple white blouse with a necklace. Her hair was most likely finger waved and pin curled.

Update from Iggy:
Percy Ernest Budlong (1895-1975) lived in Mill City, Marion, Oregon. He later worked as a Road Construction Supervisor. Bertram Mombert was a time-keeper for a road construction crew, perhaps the same one. Percy had a lot of children.

Jaye Blackney (abt 1899) apparently was only nicknamed "professor" as he isn't listed as a teacher.

Kearney Culter (Sep 1894)

Lester S. Ettinger (abt 1896)

Marshall Dours was Clifford Marshall Dawes, a brother of Walter Dawes (also listed).

Clarence Mason was born on October 31, 1894. Clarence died on March 1967.

George Henry LETELLIER Jr. [Parents] was born 4 Sep 1895 in Oregon. He died 18 Dec 1968 in Sacramento, CA. George was employed by Hammond Lumber Comnpany according to his World War I draft registration card.

The 1910 US Census for Rock Creek, Linn, Oregon (ED 0189) shows Clarence and Carl Mason were cousins, living next door to each other, Bessie Lettenmaier lived next to Clarence. Georgia Brown (adopted) lived next to Bessie. LaVerne Knerr lived around the corner. This school most likely was in Education District 189, Rock Creek, Linn, Oregon.

Update from Jacqi and Iggy!

Gertie Hall had a sister Nora Hall. In the 1900 US census they are listed as 14 and 10 years old respectively, living with parents William and Anna Hall in Grant, Monona, Iowa.

Gertie married Merlin Otto Pearson by 1910 for they are listed in the US census as living in Marion, Marion, Oregon with young sons, William B. (1909) and Mervin Otto (b. 13 Jan 1910 d 3 Mar 1997).

Nora Irene Hall Pearson married Ernest Clair Pearson and according to her FindAGrave memorial (# 28400270) she died in Mar. 11, 1921. She had daughters Mildred (1910), Doris (1909), and Clair (b. 1915)
Ernest C Pearson was Merlin Otto Pearson's brother according to the 1900 US census.

Merlin and Ernest's father was quite a character.

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=benton&id=I16618

He was one of the Oregon Trail riders and knew and rode with Buffalo Bill.

Perhaps Nora wasn't in the photograph because she was pregnant? There is a Nora Pearson and daughters Mildred and Doris in the 1920 census in the same Oregon county as Gertrude's family--with the addition of a third child, born around 1915. Perhaps that would help date the photograph?
