Party DL Antiques

A party someplace in a really large booth to sit five on each side.  On the table I see a bottle of Jim Beam,  Hamms beer bottles and a 7 up bottle, towards the back I see a bottle of Grain Belt beer.  It looks like this party happened in the summertime….whatever…it will serve as our New Year’s Eve photo.  It looks like a 1940’s-1950’s photo to me.

Full Circle 103

This was a quick Full Circle…one of the quickest yet! This photo was featured on December 20, 2014.
Wedding December 20
Will and Maud Frederickson  Photo Number 1776
Iggy located an obituary for Will and Maud’s only son Roderic.  From Roderic’s obituary I had many children to choose from.
Sometimes little info can be found.  This time I had good luck with White Pages.   I located a address for Larry.  I sent off a copy of the blog on December 21, 2014 and heard from Sally…Larry must have emailed her immediately!
Hi Connie!
My brother, Larry, forwarded your email about finding the picture of our grandparents, Will & Maud Frederickson.  I am the family genealogist and would love to have the photo.  What part of Minnesota was the photo located?  Will had a brother who lived near Fergus Falls. How did you locate my brother?  Thanks so much for taking the time to help these photos find their family. Here is my contact information:
Sally

Hi Sally, I mailed a copy of the blog post I wrote about Will and Maud.  I just mailed it a day or two ago...the post office must be working hard. (Turns out that Iggy found an email address for Larry and he sent an email to him)
The photo of Will and Maude is number 1776.  I purchased it at a Flea Market/Garage sale from a guy by the name of Larry he was near Grand Rapids for the big bunch of Garage Sales along the highway North of Grand Rapids back in September.
I purchased the postcard because it had names and the date is special to me and my husband!
My friend and researcher Iggy found out that Will and Maude had only one son Roderic and found his obit in the Carroll County Times.  From there I located an address for Larry and crossed my fingers that if he wasn't interested he would contact a relative that was!    It worked!!  I just plug a name into White Pages and a city and State.
I am headed to the Post Office this morning so I will pop it in the mail.  I hope you will share something about Will and Maude  after you have received the photo.  Merry Christmas!!  Connie  December 23, 2014
Sally wrote back:
Thanks so much for sending me all that information about the blog.  That is a great photo of them.  My siblings and I are getting together after Christmas and I can't wait to show them the photo.  I already posted to the blog so   everyone will know that the search was successful! They were married and lived in Winterset, Iowa until the 1960s.  My Dad had moved to the Washington, DC area in 1941 to work for the government and liked the area so much he stayed here.  Thanks so much and have a Merry Christmas!

I sent off the postcard on December 23, 2014.
Hi Connie!
Thank you so much for sending the photo of my grandparents!  It arrived in the mail today (December 26) and I am amazed at what great shape it is in.  I see that my brother, Larry, also posted on your blog.  My other siblings are amazed that you were able to track down Larry so the photo could be returned.  This is a wonderful hobby/service that you and Iggy do.  I hope to be able to find out who Effie Sherwood is. ( the postcard was sent to Effie Sherwood)
Thanks again! Happy New Year!

Sally also left this comment on the blog.
Thank you so much for tracking down this photo of my grandparents! This picture was taken on their wedding day. Will was a farmer in Winterset, Iowa and my grandparents lived there until the early 1960s. They moved in with our family in Maryland and were married 60 wonderful years. Thank you so much for tracking down my brother. My siblings are all getting together after Christmas and I can't wait to show them this picture. I guess I guess I now need to see if I can figure out who Effie Sherwood is. Thanks again!

Full Circle 102

Another photo found a home through an Internet Search.
Ramona Postcard DL Antiques NUmber 1304 (2)
Ramona Ann Moffett Photo Number 1304
Steve contacted me through the email in my profile.
I sent the postcard off  to California.
Hi Connie,
I received the postcard of Ramona Ann Moffett yesterday, thank you so
much! Following is a little more about Ramona, the postcard, and myself.
You may use any or all of the following you see fit to complete the full
circle on your website.
A few months ago my mother asked me to see if I could find any
information on her biological father. My mother was born in Morris,
Minnesota in 1928. As it turns out, her father is the same Robin H
Thompson who married Ramona Moffett in 1937. Robin and Ramona had two
daughters and were living in Glenwood, Minnesota in 1940. Glenwood is
about 25 miles from Morris.
74 years after the date and 1,795 miles away from the locations in the
1940 Federal Census, I was able to find that one of Ramona's daughters
was living in the same small town in Northern California as one of my
aunts. Not only the same town, but they attend the same church, sit in
the same Women's Sunday School, sing the same hymns together, and have
greeted each other and spoken almost weekly. They have done so for about
the last 20 years!
After writing an introductory letter, my aunt and Ramona's daughter met
once again, but this time knowing they were half-sisters. It was an
exciting time for them both and they have been getting to know each
other. I will be giving the postcard of Ramona to her daughter in the
near future.
I want to sincerely thank Captain Connie for the website and for quickly
sending me the postcard. I also thank Joe, Iggy, Intense Guy, for their
comments that helped lead me to the during the beginning of my search.
Regards, Steve

Thanks for stopping by.

Update from Steve:
Now for a update on the Minnesota sisters...I hosted a meeting at my home for them all to get together.  They all had a very nice time getting to know each other a little; it was and still is incredible how close they all came to be to each other and how many ways they are similar in appearance and characteristics.
One more "thanks a lot" to you for your great website and personal help.
Steve

Linda’s cousin found the photo on the blog and contacted Linda who then contacted me with her address and the postcard was mailed off.

Hi Connie,
I’ve received the postcard photograph of my dad. It’s precious to our family because we only have one tiny photo of Dad as a child. Amazing that you found it in an antique shop. Iggy’s research is correct. Dad was a World War II veteran. He and Mom had three girls and a boy (I’ve passed a copy of the photo on to each of them). Thanks again and also a special thank you to my cousin Claudia who happened to find this photograph on your site.

Full Circle 100

I am pleased to report that we have reached a milestone on this blog!  We have reached Full Circle 100.

Yesterday my husband and I were invited to lunch by Missy and Chad.   They drove up to Park Rapids and we had a lovely lunch and visit.

It seems they did a search for relatives on the internet and found a photo of Chad’s Grandmother and a handwritten note by his Great Grandmother here on Forgotten Old Photos..   They weren’t so sure what to do.  Missy left a message on the blog and I contacted her through email.

They would like to find out more about their family and hope to do some more research.

This was a photo featured in 2010.  It was the only photo where I have found a note tucked in behind the photo.  Many of you long time readers will remember it I am sure.

Photo 245

 Photo Number 245

Photo 245 letter

It took a long time for this Full Circle to be completed.

Missy and Chad want to thank Iggy for his research, it was his research that helped find Alta and her daughter Marie.  The only memories Chad has of his Grandmother are when she was in the Nursing Home.

I had to smile.  Some relatives of Chads are skeptical, I hope it will help when they see Alta’s handwriting.  They also figured I would charge a huge fee for the photo.   No so…I mail one photo to families free of charge although I appreciate reimbursement for postage and handling.. or lunch in town!  ( Just kidding)   I think of these forgotten photos as a kindness to pass along someday.

On the way up north Missy and Chad stopped for a break and had a small lunch…as it turns out another couple paid for their lunch…gestures of kindness follow a person everywhere!

I am thrilled to return this photo to family! This Full Circle 100 marks 199 photos that have been returned to family.

Thanks for stopping by.

Franklin Herefords  Slater MO
That must be little Jamie in the truck!  I bet his last name is Franklin.
That looks to me like a 1947 Two Ton Truck…but I am no expert on vehicles.  It looks like a well used truck so this photo was most likely taken in the 1950’s sometime.  He has been hunting.
Thanks for stopping by.

Update from Iggy:
James L(eroy?) Franklin (February 23, 1920 - September 27, 2001) and Mildred A. Franklin (September 3, 1914 - June 26, 2008) owned the Franklin Polled Hereford Farm outside of Slater, Missourri.

Their son, also "Jim," apparently still lives there.

The truck is indeed a a 1947-1955 era Chevrolet "Grain Truck". The back actually hinged like a dump truck.

Ira married Irene Frances August (5 Jan 1903 in Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania - 20 May 1948 in Contra Costa, California) and they had at least one son, Robert (c. 1926 in Pennsylvania).

I find it interesting that Ira lived in North Bergen, Hudson, New Jersey in 1930.
